About Truckee Traveler

Hi. My name is Kaelah, and I’m the gal behind Truckee Traveler.

I grew up in South Florida but spent many summers in western North Carolina and the New England area visiting family. My *light* introduction to the outdoors began during these trips, whether we were fishing stocked ponds, staying at campgrounds with flushing toilets, hiking along the Blue Ridge Parkway, or skiing in New Hampshire.

I’ve always found myself to be happiest outside and to have a strong appreciation for our natural world which is what inspired my path into the “environmental” space. In middle school, I joined Roots & Shoots (thank you Jane Goodall). In high school, I was in the Environmental Action Club (where somehow my idea of branding our shirts with a graphic of the earth pointing to a human saying “I’m with Stupid” was approved). And in college, I decided to pursue a degree in environmental engineering. It was not what I expected at all…

Eventually I graduated with a degree in Biological and Agricultural Engineering focusing in water systems. I actively try to practice environmental-stewardship throughout my career which, to keep it simple, primarily involves mitigating pollutants in water. Through work in 2018, I landed in good ‘ol Truckee, California. That is where the Truckee Traveler idea began and has been my chosen home ever since. Nothing matches the feeling of belonging, and Truckee offered that.

Through this page, I, along with my two dogs Chanler and Lou, hope to take you on my mostly-leisurely outings through various towns across the US, from biking and hiking to skiing to rating fish tacos. Small towns are special so to highlight their charm, I’ll share the stories of local business owners and how the towns they’re in inspire their day to day. Oh, did I mention I’m building out a van to help get me from point A to point B, also? There are many adventures to be had and I’m excited to share them, but at the end of the day, I have one motto:
